Private Equity Division

Direct investment in private companies that already have revenue

Who This Page Is For

Owners and management of private companies looking for growth capital — and, from time to time, a small number of groups we co-invest alongside.

Equity Partners International is a family office. The money we invest is our own and that of the family trusts we serve, so there is no fund, no investment committee outside this building, and no fundraising cycle to wait for. We are not seeking investors; we are seeking companies.

What We Look For

These criteria are specific on purpose. A company that reads this list should be able to tell before writing to us whether there is a conversation to have.

  • We invest in: First- and second-stage private companies

Past the founding stage, with a business that is running and a management team in place.

  • We invest in: Existing revenue

We invest to participate in growth that is already happening. Revenue is the threshold, not a projection of it.

  • We invest in: Oversight of cash

We require oversight of the company's cash as a condition of investing. This is not negotiable and it is better raised at the first meeting than the last.

  • We do not: Zero-revenue startups

We do not fund pre-revenue companies. However good the idea, it is not what this division does, and saying so saves everyone the meeting.

  • We do not: Funds and fund-of-funds positions

We invest directly in operating companies. We are not an allocator and we do not take positions in other firms' funds.

How We Invest

Usually the only investor

About half the time we are the sole outside investor in the company. When we do co-invest, it is typically with one or two other groups — never a syndicate.

Growth, not a turnaround

We are investing in revenue that already exists and a plan to grow it. That is a different exercise from buying a business to fix it, and we are candid about which one we are good at.

Cash oversight from day one

Oversight of company cash is written into how we invest. It protects the capital and, in our experience, it is the single discipline that most often keeps a growing company out of trouble.

A long hold

Family office capital has no fund life to work against. We can hold a position for as long as the company is compounding, and exit when it makes sense for the business rather than for a vintage year.

If Your Company Fits

Tell us what the company does, what it earns today, and what the capital is for. A short note is enough to start.
